A brief description of the main decisions
A feasibility study has been developed for an in-depth assessment of the project "Restoration of the existing power generation facilities of CHPP at AZOVSTAL Steel Works.
Taking into account a significant share of the purchase of electrical energy on the market, as well as taking into account availability of an excess amount of secondary combustible gases from metallurgical production (blast furnace gas), considering also the implementation of a dry treatment system for converter gas (according to a separate project), after which converter gas can be used as fuel, the prospect of reconstruction of the existing thermal power plant with the construction of additional power generating capacities is real and quite expedient.
As part of the development of the Technical Concept, a comprehensive assessment of the options for the reconstruction of the power facility was carried out.
First phase of construction. Option 1 – installation of a new 35 MW high-pressure turbogenerator in the existing TG-1 cell. The steam turbine is provided with steam from boilers st. No. 5 and No. 6.
First phase of construction. Option 2 – installation of a new 35 MW medium-pressure turbine generator in the existing TG-1 cell. To supply the steam turbine with steam, it is planned to build a new medium-pressure boiler with all the necessary auxiliary systems. The boiler will be located in the boiler room of the existing CHP plant at the site of the decommissioned boilers of sts. 3, 4. The boiler is supposed to operate on blast furnace and coke oven gas.
The second stage of construction – installation of a new 55 MW medium-pressure turbine generator in the existing TG-2 cell. To supply the steam turbine with steam, it is planned to build a new medium-pressure boiler with all the necessary auxiliary systems. The boiler will be located in the boiler room of the existing CHP plant at the site of the decommissioned boilers st. No. 3, 4. The boiler is supposed to operate on blast-furnace and converter gas with a minimum use of natural gas.
Implementation of the project
The development of the technical concept and feasibility study was fully completed in 2021. Further implementation was suspended due to the invasion of Ukraine by russian troops.
